Graphicabulary, consists of members Kwak Mingoo (b. 1989) and Yi Seula (b. 1990), spent around three months in room 1430 of Hilton Seoul in the autumn of 2022. Focusing less on the physical elements of the architecture itself than on the layering of time and experiences accumulated within, the two artists recorded them in graphics and painting. Kwak extracted interior patterns of carpeting and wallpaper to reconstruct in graphic form, extending them over the walls of the exhibition space. Yi overlaid personal imaginings and memories onto the disappearing space by translating the scenes of the hotel into paintings. Capturing cross-sections of spaces ranging from guest rooms, back of house areas, lobby, sauna, and other spaces, their work evokes the everyday sensibilities once held by the hotel.
